News About CCR
College of Court Reporting attended the 2007 NCRA annual convention
in Dallas, Texas. Jeff Moody, Jay Vettickal, Nicky Rodriquez, Margie
Wakeman-Wells represented CCR to promote its online court reporting to
working reporters and students attending the convention. Marlana Haig,
Jennifer Guerrero, and Amanda Standley, faculty at CCR, attended the
Certified Reporting Instructor seminar and are pursuing their teacher
certification. Kay Moody presented to over 200 students attending the
convention. Kay's presentation focused on how to survive as an online
student. Her experience, motivation, and knowledge made her presentation
a great success.
Most importantly, CCR was represented by over 20 of its online students,
who are enrolled in its online court reporting program. The highlight of
the convention for our students and staff were being able to share in
the presentation of two NCRA scholarships that were awarded to Cheryl
Hoover and Shay Sullivan. Way to go Cheryl and Shay, you made us all
proud. The convention was a grand time for all of us.

College of Court Reporting’s
Online Program Becomes Nation’s First Approved by NCRA. On
June 22, 2006 the College of Court Reporting’s online court
reporting program became the first online program to be approved by the
National Court Reporters Association (NCRA). The college applied to NCRA
for approval of its online program in the fall of 2005. After a rigorous
evaluation process, NCRA informed the college in June 2006 that the
online court reporting meets or exceeds NCRA’s education and curriculum
requirements.
NCRA is a national organization serving the educational and professional
needs of court reporting students; court reporters; broadcast
captioners; communication access realtime translation (CART) reporters,
who provide services to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities; and
realtime writers. Professionals in this industry capture the spoken word
verbatim and provide them as readable text.
This approval by NCRA adds to the College of Court Reporting’s list of
national recognition. The college’s online court reporting program was
accredited in 2002 by the Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges
and Schools (ACICS) a national accrediting body recognized by the
Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. The college’s online
court reporting program was also chosen in 2003 by the U.S. Department
of Education to participate in the department’s Distance Education
Demonstration Program. The college was one of fewer than 30 universities
and colleges nationwide participating in the program, which was
developed to determine the effectiveness of online distance education.
“NCRA’s approval is another example of the commitment of our entire
staff and faculty to our students and to the profession,” said Jeffrey
T. Moody, president of CCR. For additional information on the
College of Court Reporting’s online approval, please contact Jay T.
Vettickal.

December 1, 2003 - U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige today
announced the selection of five additional postsecondary education
institutions to participate in the Distance Education Demonstration
program, bringing the total number of institutions, systems and
consortia of institutions admitted to the program to 29 in 23 states and
the District of Columbia. The selection of these five new participants
will allow the Education Department to broaden the scope of its
examination of issues related to the use of federal financial aid by
distance education students, particularly at institutions that provide
their curricula exclusively via distance learning. "The new participants
enhance the diversity of the types of institutions in the program,
provide education to rural students without access to traditional
campuses and expand the distance education curricula to include nursing,
court reporting and engineering," Paige said.

Janet Noel, of the College of Court Reporting, continued her
education by learning the latest technology offered for court reporters.
Janet enrolled in and completed the Technology I class (CR210) taught by
Mr. Jeff Moody where she learned to operate and write for the computer
using the computerized writer, read, translate, edit and print
transcript material in realtime on CAT; create and use permanent and job
dictionaries; and understand computer terminology. We are very pleased
that Janet was a student last semester. She was an inspiration to her
fellow students and staff and did an outstanding job. Janet's presence
in the classroom provided her fellow students an insightful perspective
through her knowledge and expertise of working as an official and
freelance court reporter. It is wonderful to see CCR's staff keeping
up-to-date on the latest technology. Previous to joining CCR’s teaching
staff, Janet worked as both an official and freelance reporter in
Indiana. She earned her associate’s degree in court reporting from
MacCormick College in Chicago, and she possesses the Illinois CSR. She
recently became certified by the National Court Reporters Association as
a certified court reporting instructor (CRI). Janet teaches speed
building classes at the intermediate and advanced speed levels and court
reporting procedures. Way to go Janet on this tremendous accomplishment!
